On the way back down from the winding roads towards Colombo, we stopped for lunch in Pinnawela. It had been a hot, bumpy morning down the mountain, and everyone needed a break. Oh, and we’d heard that while us humans eat lunch in Pinnawela, the elephants take a bath.
Why, yes, yes they do. All twenty-plus of them. Actually, I have no idea how many there were, and that’s saying something. In the very few times I’ve encountered elephants over the course of my life, the number is usually low enough even for me to be able to count (I’m horribly, comically bad at math).
But truly, honestly, there were tons of gorgeous elephants, and trust me, there were too many to count.
