without me, use withlocals

Recently WithLocals contacted me about their  new online service available in Malaysia that connects locals with tourists to provide unique, homegrown cultural experiences. Their site is really exciting to me, mainly because I would have loved to have had a system like this in place back when we lived in Malaysia. We had a constant stream of visitors in KL, and I had a roster of restaurants and tourist attractions to cycle through. While it was great to be able to “show off” our home away from home, sometimes it also meant going to the same places repeatedly (once, I visited the KL Bird Park three times in four days.  I mean, I love fowl as much as the next guy, but … that’s a lot of bird visits). WithLocals would have been a great way to experience the city with experiences that were unique for me, too.

WithLocals has a dedicated section to local eating, tailor-made for a food tourist. EATLocals meals usually involve a home-cooked meal at the home of a local “host.” The hosts are vetted by WithLocals staff, and some also offer cooking lessons or visits to local markets. Oh, the hidden gems and new ingredients I might’ve discovered this way —  I’m already drooling at the thought.

Okay, so I’m getting a pretty serious case of Malaysia-itis (if such a condition exists) just looking through all of the EATLocals experiences. Could someone just please buy me a plane ticket and hire me a babysitter? We can fly together! We’ll go whenever YOU want to go!  Deal? Deal.
