My definition of a fantastic reinterpreted nicoise salad: thinly sliced maguro tuna and a perfectly wiggly poached egg
My sister Angel came to visit us this week, and since she’s been to Kuala Lumpur four times now, I’m running out of new things to introduce her to. Luckily, I still haven’t tried the Deli @ MiCasa Suites, a little side venture run by Chef Takashi of Cilantro (the restaurant where we lucked into a multi-course truffle dinner).
Do you ever play that game when you go out to eat with a few friends, and you all try each other’s dishes to try to wager who did the best job ordering their entree? i play that game all the time, and that day at the Deli was no different. I ordered the special of the day, a handmade mushroom pasta, which was nice and fresh and colorful, but Angel won this round easily with her nicoise salad. I’m not a huge fan of nicoise salad usually, but this version was not overly dressed, incorporated fresh slivers of maguro tuna, and had a perfectly poached egg perched on top. Next to her salad, my pasta seemed positively amateur.

Second place: handmade pasta with shiitake mushrooms and fresh baby spinach
That’s okay. I’m happy to lose this one, if for nothing else to gain a place to have a delicious salad every once in awhile.

I do love the nicoise salad here. Definitely one of the best renditions in town. I guess ordering here is much easier than Cilantro.
Hi Boo! It’s also much more affordable, considering that lunch at Cilantro is definitely a “special occasion lunch!” Hope you are well.
