picture it: diy kid’s art gallery

The Gravy Baby is starting preschool today!  I can hardly believe he’s growing up so quickly.  A trickle of daily art projects has been appearing in his backpack every day ever since he started summer camp back in June, and I can only imagine that now we’re in for a deluge.

At first, we posted each haphazard sketch, gluey mass and glitter-bombed creation proudly on our refrigerator.  Within a month, we could hardly see the fridge, much less walk by without knocking one, usually held by a single weak magnet, to the ground.  I took to the internets to see what other moms do to combat their artful clutter.  Pottery Barn Kids makes a cute solution, but at $39 a pop plus shipping, I felt like I could save a little if I just used a little elbow grease to DIY something similar.

The area above our kitchen sink is woefully bare, so I thought that might be a good place for our makeshift gallery.  With 3M Command decorative clips that we already had on hand, sisal twine and mini craft clothespins, I had a gallery of the Gravy Baby’s art on full display in under five minutes.

The total cost of the project was less than $10 (since we already had decorating clips on hand).  When the Gravy Baby saw his creations proudly displaying in our kitchen, he took a step back, nodded approvingly, and said, “Mommy, my art is so good!”

As we say around the Casa del Gravy, it’s always better to be honest than modest.
