Every time I go to the Bird Park, which is a lot these days, I never know what to expect. Most of the time, it’s because I’m wandering through a free-flight aviary, and I never know what peacock or other wacky bird of paradise is going to swoop overhead. But I really didn’t expect the warm and enthusiastic reception the Gravy Baby would receive from a group of Indian tourists.

One of the women approached me first and asked if she could take a photo of him. As soon as I agreed, a whole flank of her family members appeared from nowhere, and they all started jostling about where to stand, who would take the photo, and cooing over the Gravy Baby, who responded to all of the excitement by promptly falling asleep.
