little bowl of happiness: fresh pork noodles

Happy New Year, readers!  I know, my recent silence has been deafening.

I’m back now.  It’s been a busy holiday season here for us at Gravy Central.  Today marked the departure of our third group of visitors this month, and I’ve been sharing our fun little corner of the world with travelers from far and near.  What that really means is that I’ve been eating my way through Kuala Lumpur again.

One of the best things about having visitors, besides the stellar company, of course, is that I rediscover my favorite parts of the city all over again.  I brought my sisters and brother-in-law to Imbi Market on Christmas Eve, and I asked my fresh noodle lady to surprise me with something tasty.  She whipped up this delightful little number, a clear broth filled with thick flour noodles, blanched spinach, shredded pork and crispy fried anchovies and shallots.  As I’ve mentioned before, I’m a big fan of the breakfast noodle, and this hearty concoction cost RM 2.80, or less than one US dollar.  The noodles were perfectly al dente, the pork was flavorful, and the anchovies were deliciously briny.  I’m definitely adding this dish into my rotation at the market.

I have much more to come, and I’ll be blogging as fast as I can to catch up (which these days means balancing the Gravy Baby on my hip while uploading photos with one hand).  Hope your holidays were as fun — and filling — as ours!
