new feature: the little plate of happiness

lkgac2

I’ve decided that we’re eating so much good food here, I couldn’t possibly feature every last dish.  Therefore, every once in awhile, I’m going to choose a dish that I can’t stop thinking about long after said dish has been consumed and post it on this blog.  Some weeks I might have lots of plates of happiness.  Other weeks might only have one or two.  We’ll see how it goes.  My only other requirement is that it cost no more than $5 US dollars.

Today’s Little Plate of Happiness is the seafood curry laksa with noodles pictured above.  Laksa is generally considered to be one of the national dishes of Malaysia, and my head spins with the types of laksas available to us here.  This seafood laksa was our second ever of any kind in the country, and it had the most delicate curry flavor tempered by freshyellow mee, which is Bahasa Malayu for “noodles.”  In the foreground, starting counterclockwise, you can see prawns, local oysters, and fresh squid.  In the background is a crispy fried tofu skin.  The total cost?  $1.50.

Happiness.

Viviansays:

It’s 9:28 in the morning and I am now REALLY hungry and looking angrily at the stale wheat bagel I call breakfast….

Lisasays:

Yeah, I’m starting to think that I may have to ration my visits to your blog. I can’t handle the daily emotional rollercoaster of rage and regret at the pathetically poor food options available to us in D.C.

biscuitwheelssays:

Laura: let me know if you find any places in DC that have laksa! Vivian and Lisa: I’m sorry for the emotional turmoil I wreak on you guys with my food photos. Jeff: I’m not sorry.

biscuitwheelssays:

Hi Rayna and Sarah!

Yes, this laksa is a little bit spicy, but there are other types that aren’t so spicy. I’ll take a photo of one and post it here for you to see!
