unexpectedly kid-friendly restaurants and more

The dining room at Yayla, one of the unexpectedly kid-friendly restaurants in my March article for Northern Virginia magazine

Happy Wednesday!  This morning I am clapping happy claps and dancing for Brother Orange. Have you seen it yet? I love it when great stories come out of something as mundane as losing a cell phone. In the meantime, I’m still looking for my next big story. Last month, in addition to Ge Ge’s debut as a food critic, I wrote a piece about a few unexpectedly kid-friendly restaurants in the northern Virginia area, which first appeared in the March print issue of Northern Virginia magazine.

I also wrote a new post in my Global-ish column for Northern Virginia magazine about Lu’s Restaurant, a new joint on Lee Highway right near our house. Its’s not much to look at, but man oh man, does this place take me back to my days living in Austin during law school, when I’d visit beat-down Tex Mex restaurants in search of steaming fresh corn tortillas. To this day, I get weak around handmade corn tortillas, partly because I love the heft of the masa, the rough surface primed and ready for serving a generous helping of eggs and chorizo and partly because, durnitall, law school was stressful.

You can check out my other posts for Global-ish here. In the meantime, I’ve got some good meals and recipes planned to show you this week. Stay tuned!
