with an ear infection, make pizza

pzgac

Naturally, after such an exciting, fun-filled weekend in New York, I spent most of last week sick.  I’m not sure what happened, but the fact that the Gravy Baby has had a continuous spigot of mucus running down his face for the last three months might be part of the reason.  Thanks, preschool.  Oh, and he also licked my face a lot when I came home from New York because he missed me that much, so that might have also contributed.  (I have to admit, though, that mucus-y face-licking from my loving, sweet child is the best kind of face-licking in the world.)

Anyway, getting through the week was pretty tough, and the hubby really stepped up his game by making us a pizza one night — out in the cold, on the grill, with a pizza stone (that should totally be a Clue, by the way).  Being exhausted and sick wasn’t much fun, and I know I haven’t been exactly dreamy to be around (I may have told the hubby to be “less helpful” because it was too tiring to answer his questions and he may have looked at me like I was an alien.  I’m not admitting anything, I’m just sayin’…)

Luckily, the doctor figured out yesterday that I’ve had an ear infection that hasn’t been properly treated in over a month, and so all of the exhaustion and other symptoms I’ve had can be boiled down to one simple premise: I am an eight year old.

Today is the first day in a long time that my right ear is no longer ringing, and so the three of us celebrated by taking an extra-long walk down to the river to watch the sunset.  The palmetto trees framed our real-life picture postcard nicely, and for a brief, shining moment, we had a peaceful, lovely evening.

I won’t share the gory details of the long walk back.  Let’s just say it involved a whiny toddler, a frustrated mom, a harried dad and one very dirty diaper.
