little plate of happiness: big nasty biscuit

bnbgac1

How could something so bad for you taste so good?

At Hominy Grill, a Charleston institution and one of my go-to breakfast joints, the appropriately-named Big Nasty Biscuit is a fried chicken breast on top of one of their mile-high biscuits, topped with melted white cheddar cheese.  Then, as if that’s not enough to make your heart stop, the whole shebang is smothered in sausage gravy.

Every time I go to Hominy Grill, I hesitate with guilt about ordering such an obviously decadent, over-the-top breakfast dish.  All it takes, though, is one bite of that salty, crunchy, slightly soggy, spicy, chicken-y mess, and I remember why the Big Nasty is worth both the $7.50 cost and the toll on my arteries.

Because it’s crazy good.
