Please take a moment to gaze in awe upon the beauty that is the best tandoori chicken I’ve ever eaten in my life.
I’ve mentioned this chicken before here and here, and I finally have some decent photos of my own to post. I’ve been meaning to share images of my beloved chicken for months, but, quite honestly, every time we’ve walked up to this parking lot mecca of oven-roasted poultry, I lose my head and my camera falls by the wayside. This revelation is only embarrassing in the sense that the hubby and I are regulars at this stall, and so I’ve had the opportunity every two weeks or so for the last three months to snap a couple of shots.
Grabbing a naan from the oven with a poker, then flinging it onto a plate in one smooth, fast motion
Since this tandoori chicken has been covered already in the blog world, I feel the need to add only two points from the perspective of an American living abroad. First of all, tandoori chicken has never been something I’ve sought out on the menu of an Indian restaurant in the U.S. For the most part, the tandoori chicken I’ve had back at home is dry, relatively bland, and generally unexciting. This tandoori chicken changed my mind. It’s juicy, spicy and tangy. It’s completely addictive. It makes me want to eat more, even when I have a piece in my mouth and in my hand.

Buttering that naan, making my life worth living
Secondly, this chicken isn’t just good chicken on its own merits; the naan (Indian flatbread) is the perfectly formed accompaniment for the chicken. Available with butter, garlic or cheese, my usual method is to tear off a piece of naan as soon as it’s cool enough to handle, then jamming a chunk of tandoori into the middle of it, sandwich-style. I love this chicken so much that I’m trying to work up the courage to ask these guys if I can apprentice with them. That way, no matter where I go in the world after Kuala Lumpur, this chicken will go with me.
Now, wouldn’t that be a life skill to add to the old resume?

Ann, I would just like to emphasize two points you made in this post: (1) This is not the best tandoori chicken I have ever had. It is, in 30 years of chicken eating, the best chicken I have ever had. To merely call it the best tandoori chicken is to do it an injustice that I can not abide. (2) If you do not learn their mysterious tandoori marinade magic before you return to the states, I might not be friends with you anymore. Just so you know.
Damn you woman!
Lisa: Thanks for the potentially friendship-ending heads-up.
Jeff: I like this activity very much.
Rachael: We’ll take you guys there! Just name the date!
Yay!! I was waiting for when you would post both pictures and the address of the place! We’ll have to get out there sometime… it’s breakfast here and I could totally go for some right now! 🙂
omg! so jealous! T and I must experience this. Ann when can we come over?!?
This looks ridiculously delicious.
David: Let’s figure it out this weekend!
Milagros: it IS ridiculously delicious.
Boo: Thanks! Can you believe I got hungry just writing this post? Amazing the powers of this tandoori chicken.
Great pixs! I love this place too. Now my tummy is rumbling from the look of those juicy chicken skewers.
Are you SURE you can’t ship fresh tandoori overnight?
I CAN ship the chicken, but you probably don’t WANT me to. 🙂
