new tenants

On Friday, the hubby and I packed and moved again.  The house we’ve been staying in since we arrived here in KL needs major renovations that can’t be completed while we’re living in it, so we moved a block away to an apartment.  We like the new digs a lot — the place is slightly smaller, but it’s got good bones and plenty of space for future house guests.  We spent most of the weekend unpacking and setting ourselves up for when our furniture finally arrives from the U.S., which should be sometime this week.

I cannot begin to tell you how excited and relieved we are finally have a place that we can call home here in KL.  Photos will come once I’ve finished convincing the hubby that the inflatable sofa from his bachelor days doesn’t have a place in our Southeast Asian pied-a-terre.

There were some things at the old house we had to leave behind for some new, unexpected tenants — click on the jump for details.

While the movers were packing us up, I suggested re-using an empty box we’d stored in our carport, and so we all headed downstairs, arms full of things to put in it.  Once we did, however, the box started moving, and we soon discovered why:

Baby kittens!  (Yes, I initially thought the box contained rats, too).  Our next-door neighbors have taken to feeding a stray cat, who apparently thought our empty box was the perfect place to host her new brood of five.  As you can see, the hubby accidentally left two pairs of house slippers and a dryer sheet in the box, which the kittens took as bedding.

Over the weekend, hubby and I stopped by a few more times to check on the litter, and I’ve promised him that he’s not coming home to five new kitten children in the next few days.  Now if only I can convince myself of the same…

The view of the city is spectacular. The kittens are so adorable. I think you should adopt just one so you can have a Mayasian sidekick with a cool name like Aisah (no meaning) or Jamilah (Arabic for beautiful, Sindhi for beautiful and graceful)for a girl or Along (no meaning) or Ghani (which is the title of the third Khalifah of Islam Hazrat Usman)

Kittygirl: Great names! I’m not sure we’re equipped to adopt a kitten quite yet. We just found out that our furniture isn’t arriving until October at earliest, which means we’ll still be in transition for almost a month. But it’s nice to have a pet project!

Vivian: Happily, this place IS our home now for the next two years! We’re really excited! And I love your suggested name! 🙂

Viviansays:

Or name one Country Gravy, in honor of the blog….

Those kittens are so cute, once the mom feeds them and gets them to a nice size, you should adopt one! Can’t wait to see the new (temp?) home!
