flying by the giant peach

After Charleston, the next four cities on our itinerary (Columbia, Charlotte, Greenville and Atlanta) were a bit of a road-trip blur, but we loved seeing our family and catching up with friends all along the way.

Between Charlotte and Atlanta, I snapped this photo of this water tower constructed in the shape of a giant peach, just outside Gaffney, South Carolina.  Called the Peachoid, I love this classic American roadside landmark.  At the same time, I can’t help but wonder who came up with such a wacky idea, and who along the way made it happen.

Since peaches aren’t widely available here in Malaysia, I’m already missing peach cobbler and fresh white peaches, which are just coming into season now.  What are your summer fruit cravings, and how will you be satisfying them?

RachaelMsays:

I love all the berries that are out in the US now… They always remind me of the 4th of July and going berry picking! Here in Malaysia, I’ll be satisfying my craving with one little $10 box at a time! 🙂

RachaelM: Same here!

Maria: you’re making me crave peaches, too!
