How does one follow the weekend after Thanksgiving, a time of great feasting ? Why, with one more feast, of course. I spent the Saturday after Thanksgiving making beef rendang in a slow cooker. You’d think that the almost 8 hours of cooking, simmering, checking, simmering and checking again would have yielded a cornucopia of images about the intense process rendang involves. And yet, here’s the only image I seem to have that’s worth any snuff.

For dessert, we had a simple coconut tapioca dessert topped with broken-up popsicles I made in the Gravy Baby’s Zoku popsicle maker. He got it as a gift for his first birthday from his godmother, and it’s like a little piece of magic from the future. I remember as a kid pouring orange juice into those little plastic molds and waiting for what seemed like an eternity for them to freeze. The Zoku makes popsicles in under 10 minutes, flat, and I used it on this particular night to freeze up some pineapple and apple cider puree. Along with some lime zest, it made for a refreshing little end to a rich rendang and daal (lentil curry) meal.
